The Western Lakes & Mountains region is an outdoor
paradise. With hundreds of lakes, ponds, and rivers
there is always something new to explore. And, if
enthusiasm for the outdoors calls you to the hills,
dozens of hiking trails offer casual and challenging
hikes. Here are a list of State Parks in the region
with information on facilities and reservation contact
information.

Rangley Lakes Region: |
|
Rangeley Lake State Park:
The park opened in the summer of 1967. The park borders
on the ten-square-mile Rangeley Lake. To reach the park,
follow Route 4 from Farmington or Route 17 from Rumford.
The 750-acre park offers picnicking and swimming areas,
a boat lauching facilitiy with floats and hard-surface
ramp, a children's play area, hiking trails, modern
rest rooms with hot showers, a dumping station, well-spaced
campsites, pay phone, firewood, and other services and
supplies nearby. The park participates in resource conservation
and waste reduction by recycling returnable bottles
and cans, all colors of glass containers, #2 plastic
containers and metal containers. The recycling trailer
is located near the campground entrance. Accepts Visa,
MasterCard, check or money order. Special day-use rates
(children under 12 are FREE), off-season rates (during
Spring and Fall) and Senior Citizen discounts are available.

Grafton Notch State Park:
This park includes the Mahoosuc Mountain Range. Some
of the scenic locales include the Mother Walker Falls,
Moose Cave, Step Falls, and the famed Screw Auger Falls,
where the swirling waters of the Bear River have worn
holes up to 25 feet deep in the solid rock of the river
bed. An unusual feature of the gorge is a natural bridge,
not a common sight in New England.

Mount Blue State Park:
Located north of Farmington in the town of Weld, Mount
Blue State Park offers more than 1200 acres of angler
fishing, picnic areas, sightseeing, camping and hiking
trails.
