The Last Resort Camps have been providing sportsmen with some of the finest white-tail hunting in the U.S. since 1902. The hunter's skills are put to the test, but the reward can be a Trophy Buck in the 300 lb class. No other area produces more 200 lb bucks (dressed) than the Big Woods of Jackman, Maine.
Hunters generally come to The Last Resort for three reasons: the opportunity to hunt very large deer (our largest buck of the '99 season was a whopping 250 lbs, dressed), the opportunity to hunt with virtually no pressure (the State of Connecticut would fit nicely in our back-yard), and the opportunity to hunt from their cabins in an area which is still wild and beautiful.
We have 8 log cabins and a lodge (for eating and relaxing).
located on the north shore of Long Pond, which is 6 miles east of Jackman. All
of the cabins are heated with gas heaters and all are equipped with gas refrigerators,
gas stoves, sinks, utensils, bedding, gas lights, Five gallon spigot jugs for
spring water (filled at the lodge), and private out-houses. The lodge has part-time,
generator-supplied electricity and is open around-the-clock for guests to relax
in or shoot a game of pool; it is also where the American Plan guests eat their
delicious "all-you-can-eat" breakfasts and dinners.
Archery hunting in October can be a special treat in the Jackman area due to the lack of pressure, warmer weather, and autumn beauty. You might also want to bring a shotgun for some mid-day partridge hunting.
