Jackman - Moose River Region

The Jackman Region Offers Exciting and Challenging
Whitewater Rafting/Canoeing/Kayaking!

Several Rafting Companies Serve JackmanThe last log drive on the Kennebec River was in 1975. Prior to that time, there had been little recreational use of the river. The first few commercial trips down the river were made in wooden boats called dories. Rafts have replaced the dories.

Whitewater rafting trips on the Kennebec, Dead and Penobscot rivers are great experiences filled with thrills and excitement! The rafting season runs from late April/early May until mid-October. Rafting trips are run daily on the Kennebec and Penobscot Rivers. The Dead River has six high water releases each season.

The Kennebec and Dead Rivers, Class III and IV, are located in The Forks, just 25 miles from Jackman, easily accessible for a fun and memorable day trip! (The Penobscot River, Class IV and V is located by Baxter State Park.)

A day of rafting will generally include a cook-out lunch (usually a choice of steak, chicken, or fish), and a slide and video presentation of your trip! Life jackets, paddles, and helmets are provided by the outfitter. Each raft is guided by a licensed Maine Whitewater Guide.
